Scaling and Root planning

Gum disease is caused by a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Plaque is always forming on your teeth, but if they aren’t cleaned well, the bacteria in plaque can cause your gums to become inflamed. This can cause your gums to  pull away from your teeth and form spaces called pockets. Plaque then gets trapped in these pockets and cannot be removed with regular brushing. If untreated, gum disease could lead to bone and tooth loss.

Fluoride treatment in adolescent

Fluoride is a naturally occurring element which helps to harden tooth enamel and make it more resistant to acid exposure. It helps protect against cavities (caries) and can reduce tooth sensitivity.Topical (applied to the surface of the teeth) fluoride is generally recommended twice a year for children through their adolescent years to help prevent cavities. Topical fluoride supplementation is also recommended in patients who suffer from chronic dry mouth (xerostomia), generalized gingival recession, and sensitive teeth.

Bone grafting

There are several ways of performing a bone graft.

First, bone resorption can be prevented by packing the tooth socket with powdered bone graft material (called a socket graft, or ridge preservation) at the time of tooth removal (extraction).

Bone grafting can also re-establish the height (by a limited amount) and width of alveolar bone that has already been lost following removal of a tooth.

Depending on the rate of resorption, the remaining bone may be insufficient to replace the missing tooth with a dental implant
